By admin on November 21, 2017 in Ms. Kasey Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

With the weather finally changing, this week we learned all about the water cycle. We learned a few new words such as ‘evaporation’ and ‘condensation’ and we talked about how water evaporates and causes rain. We even did a little experiment to demonstrate how the heat from the sun turns the water in to vapor (evaporation).

The Great Pumpkin Exploration in Ms. Tanya’s Class

The Great Pumpkin Exploration in Ms. Tanya’s Class

By admin on November 20, 2017 in Ms. Tanya Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

The Great Pumpkin exploration in our class has been fun and educational! We started with both a visual and hands- on observation of our pumpkin. How does it look and feel? Harper said it has a stem, Landon said it’s a sphere, Pierce said it’s really heavy.

We then made a hypothesis, what will we find inside? Seeds was the popular answer!

Then we did a visual and hands-on exploration of the inside of the pumpkin. How does it look, feel and smell? Noah said it looks yummy, Kai said it feels squishy, Lexi said it feels gooey, and Vincent said it smells like pumpkin!

We also Incorporated math into our activity. We measured our pumpkins and their stems with a tape measure. While doing so we compared the similarities and differences of our pumpkins. The children made their observations, they are all orange and round said Pierce and Kai. Their stems are different said Kai.

What can pumpkins be used for? We can plant the seeds and carve pumpkins, said Sophia. Noah and Kai said we can make pumpkin pie.
Pumpkin pie it is!….. Stay tuned!

Exploring Science = “chlorophyll” in Ms. Tanya’s Class

By admin on November 9, 2017 in Ms. Tanya Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

This week we learned that as the weather gets cooler and there is less sunlight, the leaves begin to change color. The chlorophyll (green) production slows down and eventually stops.
We experimented with this process in the class. First, we ripped and mashed the green leaves and placed them in a jar with rubbing alcohol. We then placed the jar in a bowl of warm water. After an hour we observed the change in the color of the leaves. Science exploration is so much FUN in Ms. Tanya’s class.
