Nicholas worked very hard peeling all these stickers to make his picture. Nicholas took this activity one step further and figured out how to use the stickers to make his picture stick together. This required patience, fine motor skills, hand/eye coordination, and problem solving.

New discoveries about art in Ms. Tanya’s class

New discoveries about art in Ms. Tanya’s class

By admin on February 9, 2018 in Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

This week we learned about Kandinsky, the artist. He painted about his feelings while listening to music. He also loved painting with the colors of the rainbow. This inspired us to paint with Vivid and bright colors, while listening to music. The children painted circles, squares and even triangles. As some of the children were painting and the colors mixed, there were observations made. Lily said “hey, yellow and blue make green.” The other children set out to see what other colors they could mix. The children were excited to learn that expressions of art can be whatever you feel and create.

Celebrating the 100th day of school in Ms. Beatriz’ class.

Celebrating the 100th day of school in Ms. Beatriz’ class.

By admin on February 8, 2018 in Ms. Beatriz Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

In our TK class we have been counting each day that we have been in school since the first day of school. The children were asking how many days do we have of school before they go to kindergarten. This is a very exciting time for them in their development! They are beginning to understand the concept of time, yet it seems like an eternity. We began by creating a calendar for each month. Our “home days” or weekends are not counted. We put an X on the days we have been in school and on February6th, we celebrated our hundredth day of school. The children have also been asking when it will be pajama day. So what a better way to celebrate than with a pajama day. We had a group discussion and to make it a special day, we also made pizzas. Thank you to all the parents for making this 100th day of TK a special day!!

We have moved on from learning about homes around the world to now learning about animal homes. Working hard in the Post Office – Ms. Heather’s class

After creating mailboxes out of donated cereal boxes, the children spent the last week creating mail for each other. On the table the children’s name tags were available, along with a variety of envelopes, markers, paper, and post it notes. The children were encouraged to select another student to create a piece of mail for and then deliver it to the child’s mailbox. This project turned into a wonderful lesson on social interaction in the classroom when children were overheard asking “What is your favorite color? I want to make mail for you” and “Can you show me your mailbox? I made you something special!”.

Getting creative with bubbles in Ms. Tanya’s class.

By admin on February 6, 2018 in Ms. Tanya Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

Our class enjoyed some good, clean fun! We used graters to grate bars of soap. This was a great exercise for our fine motor skills. We then added the soap to warm water, and for fun we added some food color. The children then took turns whisking the water to create bubbles. It then turned into a fun competition to see who could whisk faster and make more bubbles. Some of the children joined in, cheering on their friends. The mix- off continued with children grating more soap and rushing to add it to the bowls. Everyone was engaged, laughing and having fun! The children enjoyed this activity very much and are asking when we can do it again!
