The children in room 3 have shown great interest in the crack corn outside. They have the opportunity to fill and pour the material into various containers in the buckets. In doing so they’re strengthening spatial awareness skills, exploring the properties of gravity, and the beginning concepts of velocity.

The children have been enjoying building with all types of materials both in the classroom and outdoors. It’s wonderful to observe how much they have grown emotionally and socially, especially during cooperative play. They are showing strength in their social skills including taking turns and problem-solving. As you may have noticed we have some amazing new additions outside on our playground and the children are definitely enjoying exploring them. We have a list with all the children’s names and they are learning to wait their turn to use the loose parts patio. So much fun to be had!

After reading the story of ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle, the children picked out their own seed and planted it. They also used name cards to practice and enforce their preliteracy skills. They found the card with the name of their seed and then they wrote the word on their own sign. We then put the plants inside our classroom near the window to care for them as they begin to sprout.

Raising Butterflies

Our class loved watching the many changes that occurred during our caterpillars’ transition to becoming butterflies. The children enjoyed drawing pictures of the caterpillars as well as creating a butterfly art gallery. When it came time to say goodbye to our butterflies the children selected a nice mint plant to release our new friends on to. We hope to see our butterfly friends visit our garden again soon!

BUGS… BUGS… EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

By admin on April 16, 2018 in Ms. Heather Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

Bugs have taken over our classroom! While the children are busy researching their bug projects at home, we have been exploring bugs in many of our classroom centers. Bug stencils were added to the writing center. Butterfly counters were used to create a counting game in our math center. A caterpillar countdown has been the focus of our group times as we eagerly await their arrival! And at the art table the children created a beautiful spider web weaving!
