Group Time with Room 8

Here Room 8 is shown doing group time after one of the students brought in stuffed animals. The students on the ground take turns asking questions about the stuffed animals while the kids in the seat respond and write down key words. Here they are shown writing the word “Penguin”. The teacher helps with the spelling, while the kids work together to show each other what the letters look like. This activity improves cognitive thinking and communication skills, as well as the children’s writing and spelling abilities.

New Growth in Room 7

In keeping with the Spring theme, Room 7 has decided to plant wheat grass. Each child gets to plant and water their own plant. They will watch as the plants grow and learn about scientific concepts while doing it. Planting seeds and helping them grow also builds self confidence and gives kids a sense of accomplishment as they watch their hard work come to fruition.

Pictured here is the students of Room 3 using Erlenmeyer flasks in the sensory tanks. Pouring water from one flask to another is great for hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. The flasks also have measured markings so that the kids can count the milliliters and improve their understanding of numbers and scientific concepts.

Playing outside with other students also contributes to social and emotional skills. Teamwork with Room 5

Teamwork with Room 5

This week in Room 5 the teacher decided to let the kids figure out how to get a piece of masking tape without using metal scissors. The kids decided to work together to test out different methods and tools. The more things they tried the better they got at not getting the tape tangled and getting appropriate sized pieces. Doing this helped the kids build their creative problem solving skills and teamwork abilities.

Water Color Wizards

Room four has graduated from finger paints and have started using paints that require brushes. Learning to use a brush helps kids learn to follow steps and problem solve. Using a brush also improves fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. Here they are also painting a paper with the first letter of their name, which is helping them to learn the alphabet.

Room 1 has been working on creating their own board games. They are given a template for the board and a pre-cut paper to make the dice. The kids get to assign their own colors and rules, create character pieces, and make dice with any combination of numbers that they choose. This activity helps to promote creativity and imagination, improves fine motor skills, and helps them to learn more numbers.

Little Dreamers’ Body Builders

Pictured here is Room 9 playing in the gym. The gym is an important part of little dreamers. Playing in the gym helps to promote social and communication skills, while also strengthening muscles and coordination. Room 9 has also just recently started roleplaying while in the gym. Some pretend to be soccer stars and body builders, while others like to play family.

Exploring Dark vs. Light

Room 1 is working on a box for their classroom. The children chose how to decorate it and they worked together to decide to make the box light on the outside and dark on the inside. They used their communication skills to discuss what they wanted and why, explaining that having it dark on the inside would make it like nighttime and the light colors outside would match their bright classroom. They worked together and used a new tool, the roller brush, to do this project, which improved their fine motor and teamwork skills.
