Bread Makers at Little Dreamers

This week Room 6 read “The Little Red Hen.” In this book, the main character grinds flour, and shapes and bakes her bread. The kids were very interested in this concept, so their teacher gave them play-dough with flour to shape into loaves of bread. This process helped the kids to make a connection between literature and real life and encouraged them to put theirselves in someone else’s shoes.

Paper Crafts with Room 2

Room 2 has been very into making creations with paper. Once they discovered how to roll and tape the paper, they figured they could make almost anything. Pictured here are kids making a ladder, armor, and a fishing pole. This activity fosters creativity and imagination as well as fine motor skills. It also builds communication skills because they have to share the roll of tape.

Feeling Blue and Green!

Room 3 is pictured here using shaving cream mixed with water color to paint. Both blue and green water color were added to the shaving cream which allowed the kids to discover lots of new shades of colors. Some kids thought their paintings looked like certain objects while others just enjoyed mixing the colors and exploring different painting techniques. This activity developed fine motor skills, and encouraged creativity and imagination.

Sand Art with Room 5

Room 5 is using colored sand and glue to make lovely pieces of art. This activity is good for building fine motor skills and identifying colors. It is also great for improving communication skills, because they have to ask for the color paper they would like and ask for which color sand they want to use.

Tulip Time

Room 7 is learning all about Spring. An important part of Spring is all the flowers that bloom. To bring this to the classroom, the kids are painting forks to look like tulips. Later they will add leaves and hang them up. This activity improves kids understanding of colors, scientific concepts, and encourages communication skills when they ask the teacher for assistance.

Gardening with Room 8

Now that the rain has subsided, the kids are tending to the garden and making sure it gets plenty of water everyday. Gardening is a great way to introduce kids to scientific concepts. It encourages them to ask questions and to improve patience as they wait for plants to mature. Its also a great way to teach them responsibility.

Drip Drop Not A Lot

Kids in Room 9 are just starting to use wet glue. Wet glue is much more challenging to use than glue sticks. “Drip drop not a lot”, are the words Ms. Meagan keeps repeating in order to teach the kids to let the glue come out slowly in small amounts. Doing this build patience. It also improves fine motor skills and and dexterity.
