Berry Happy to be Painting

The children of Room 6 are pictured here using plastic berry boxes to paint with. They had fun pressing and moving the boxes different ways to create many varying patterns and lines and they enjoyed mixing the colors and watching new ones form. Using the boxes allows them to explore a new way to use something that may normally be thrown out. This activity promotes creativity and helps the children expand their knowledge of color mixing.

New Inventions at Little Dreamers

Have you ever wanted to take a shower in sand? The students at Little Dreamers have made that possible. After being given a bunch of connectable tubing, the children began building various structures and experimenting with how the sand flowed through it. They are pictured here enjoying “taking a shower” in the sand as one student pours in sand from the top so that it flows out the side. This type of activity builds strength and gross motor skills, and also develops creativity and problem solving skills. It also improves communication skills and teamwork abilities as all the kids work together and take turns switching roles.

A Colorful Ride in Room 3

Room 3 is pictured her painting with toy cars. They first dipped the car’s tires in multiple colors of paint, and then rolled it across their papers. The children found it interesting to see how the colors and markings changed throughout the activity. Using toys outside their intended usage is a good way to develop creative thinking. This project was also a great way to play with color mixing and to build fine and gross motor skills.

Flower Power in Room 4

Today Room 4 painted with fake flowers. Using the flowers tied this activity in with their spring theme and also allowed the children to experience the patterns and shapes the flowers make. This activity is a fun way to improve fine motor skills, and let children explore color mixing.

Seeds of Love in Room 1

Seeds of Love in Room 1

With Mother’s Day approaching quickly, the kids are rushing to finalize their gifts. In Room 1, this means that the kids finally took seedlings from their group gardens, and transplanted them into their individual containers. The seedlings were put in plastic cup with fresh dirt, sprayed with water, and then another cup was placed on top to emulate the greenhouse effect. This activity expanded the children’s scientific knowledge. The transplanting also improved fine motor skills, and the spraying with water improved dexterity and problem solving skills a the children learned to use a new tool.

Welcome to the Room 6 Parade

This week Room 6 decided they wanted to form a marching band. They brandished their various instruments and marched the halls of little dreamers, sharing their talents with all. Playing with instruments improves fine and gross motor skills and helps with sensory development. Marching like this and sharing with others also helps to build communication skills and bolster self confidence.

“I love my Mommy because…”

In preparation for Mother’s Day we have had each student at Little Dreamers complete the phrase “I love my mommy because…”. Their responses were copied down, put onto floral plates, and then put on display for all to see. Engaging in discussions like this are a great way to help children learn to express emotions and feelings.

While they were painting, their teacher had a discussion with them about the flowers; she asked them whether they were fake or real, and had them explain why they though one way or the other. This activity helped the children explore new scientific concepts, develop fine and gross motor skills, and improve communication skills.

Mini Graffiti Artists in Room 5

Here the kids in Room 5 are pictured making CelloGraff art. CelloGraff, where cellophane is stretch between two supports and then painted on, is often used as a graffiti alternative in Europe. This activity demonstrates to kids that there are many different mediums of art and it also promotes creativity. It’s a good way to practice fine motor skills and color mixing knowledge, plus the fact that they kids can see each other through the plastic increases communication.
