By admin on September 24, 2018 in Ms. Brandi Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

We started off the school year learning all about ourselves! To explore the physical feelings of our body, we painted with different tools: hands, feet, and fingers were all a hit. The children were little detectives when they discovered their fingertips each contained a special map that is all their own.

While everyone is excited to start the new school year, the children in Room 1 are thrilled to start using their new school journals! This week, we drew journal entries about our families. We discussed how many people are in our families and what makes our families special. A few children asked to practice writing their name in their journal, so they used their name tag to practice. Providing children with the opportunity to explore meaningful writing concepts is key to instilling a love for writing later in life!

Welcome to Room 2!
We spent this week getting to know each other. The children had an amazing time exploring all the wonderful new materials we have incorporated into our Block, Math, Art and Science areas. Our loose parts are tapping into the children’s inner architect, engineer, mathematician and artist! We read and sang fun stories that revolved all around “Who Am I” and embraced everything that makes us unique. The children have been working hard on their self portraits and they will be displayed in the classroom very soon. We have begun the journey for an amazing school year!

The children take turns painting texture onto their papers. Different textures are being created by utilizing tools other than brushes. We turned our hands into bubble wands, and curated masterpieces with them! The children loved the final results, and would continue to ask for different colors to see if that could change their textures.

Learning how to Tie-Die in Ms. Tanya’s Classroom

Learning how to Tie-Die in Ms. Tanya’s Classroom

By admin on June 22, 2018 in Ms. Tanya with No Comments

The children had so much fun tie-dying shirts to wear for Spirit Week. First the children got to choose a white T-shirt. Then the t-shirts were thoroughly soaked in water and wrung out. Then using their thumb and index finger, the children twisted the shirt into a spiral. Then the rubber bands were applied to form triangle slices, like you see on a pizza. Then the children covered their hands with plastic gloves and squeezed the dye onto the shirt making sure that each triangle piece was a different color. Some of the children chose to mix the colors up. The shirts were then placed into a ziplock bag and placed outside in the hot sun over the weekend to help the colors set. Thank you to Sofia’s mom Rebecca for taking the shirts home to launder and bring back for us to wear. Thank you also to Skylar and Rebecca for bringing everything in for this fun project!
