By admin on October 1, 2018 in Ms. Beatriz Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

We read the story ‘Froggy Gets a Doggy’ and we had a discussion about our pets. That afternoon Mason, a therapy dog, came in to visit our class. We learned about what dogs can and can not eat. While also learning about safety when encountering other dogs. The children were able to feed Mason a treat and pet his soft fur. We then drew pictures the next day to thank Mason and his trainer Sylvia for coming to our class.

We took pictures of our shoes and we will be dictating stories about our shoes. These will be displayed at back to School Night on September 26th at 6:00pm.

After reading the story of ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle, the children picked out their own seed and planted it. They also used name cards to practice and enforce their preliteracy skills. They found the card with the name of their seed and then they wrote the word on their own sign. We then put the plants inside our classroom near the window to care for them as they begin to sprout.

The children in TK have been enjoying board games. They learn about playing fair, taking turns, focus and attention through the games. In this particular game everyone makes it to the candy castle and then they all enjoy eating the candy together. Sometimes a child will eat all the candy, but then we have someone that will make more so there is enough for everyone to enjoy as they enter the candy castle.

Celebrating the 100th day of school in Ms. Beatriz’ class.

By admin on February 8, 2018 in Ms. Beatriz Whole school; Whole child with No Comments

In our TK class we have been counting each day that we have been in school since the first day of school. The children were asking how many days do we have of school before they go to kindergarten. This is a very exciting time for them in their development! They are beginning to understand the concept of time, yet it seems like an eternity. We began by creating a calendar for each month. Our “home days” or weekends are not counted. We put an X on the days we have been in school and on February6th, we celebrated our hundredth day of school. The children have also been asking when it will be pajama day. So what a better way to celebrate than with a pajama day. We had a group discussion and to make it a special day, we also made pizzas. Thank you to all the parents for making this 100th day of TK a special day!!

Sharing our traditional clothing in Ms. Beatriz’ class.

This month we have been discussing different cultures. Christopher brought in some Chinese clothing from China, that reflected his culture. He told us that this red traditional price belonged to him. The children asked Christopher if they could try it on and he said yes. As they were trying it on the children were describing how soft, shiny and comfortable it was. They also learned that there are other ways to fasten clothing. This particular piece has cloth fasteners.
