Making Necklaces with Room 6

This week in Room 6, kids were given toys that link up using ball-and-socket joints. The kids used these variously colored toy to make necklaces and 3D sculptures. Some even made their necklaces using a repetitive color pattern, like alternating yellow and blue, or red and green. These ball-and-socket toys, give kids the freedom to create almost anything they can imagine while also improving dexterity, fine motor skills, and color recognition.

Red + Yellow = Orange!

Red + Yellow = Orange!

This week in Ms. Kim’s class, the children used red and yellow finger paints to make colorful pieces of art. The kids used spoons to place the paint on their paper, which they then folded in half and patted down. When unfolding their art the kids witnessed that the areas where red and yellow paint mixed together had now turned orange. This activity helped the children to discover that mixing red and yellow makes orange. It also helped them improve fine motor skills, as well as the communication skills need to share paint pots and ask for colors.

The children are sorting and classifying different color pegs to put in the peg board. They are working on their fine motor skills to determine which colors and pegs they would like to use.
