Beading in Room 7

The children of Room 7 made beaded handles. To do this they slid wooden beads onto a flexible metal wire. Bading is a good way to improve fine motor skills and improve hand-eye coordination. This activity also enforced their knowledge of shapes and allowed them to express their creativity.

Painting With Our Feet!

The students pictured here are painting with their feet! First, they have to stretch their leg to get the bottom of their foot painted by the teacher. Then they jump, and dance and spin all over the cardboard and watch as their footprints appear. This activity is a great form of physical activity that improves large motor skills and is a fun creative outlet.

Mixing Watercolors in Room 7

This week the students in Room 7 were able to experiment with mixing their own colors. They used bottles and various tools like pipettes and syringes to draw colored water from different tubs and mix it together. This activity improved their knowledge of colors and color mixing and also improved fine motor skills.

Magnet Masters in Room 7

The students of Room 7 are pictured here making magnetic bottles. They filled the water bottles with beads, confetti, pipe cleaners and paperclips. After they filled their bottles, the children took turns running a magnet along the outside and seeing which things followed the magnet and which stayed in place. This activity introduced them to new scientific concepts and also utilized their fine motor skills.

Pretty Prints in Room 7

Room 7 has begun their focus on animals. One thing they’re learning about are the different prints and patterns some animals have on their skin or fur. To explore this idea, the kids got to make their own animal prints in class using different materials like, bubble wrap, netting, and cotton balls along with paint. This activity helps teach kids new scientific concepts and improves fine motor skills, while also putting an emphasis on creativity and imagination.

New Growth in Room 7

In keeping with the Spring theme, Room 7 has decided to plant wheat grass. Each child gets to plant and water their own plant. They will watch as the plants grow and learn about scientific concepts while doing it. Planting seeds and helping them grow also builds self confidence and gives kids a sense of accomplishment as they watch their hard work come to fruition.

Tulip Time

Room 7 is learning all about Spring. An important part of Spring is all the flowers that bloom. To bring this to the classroom, the kids are painting forks to look like tulips. Later they will add leaves and hang them up. This activity improves kids understanding of colors, scientific concepts, and encourages communication skills when they ask the teacher for assistance.
